1. What type of disabilities are eligible for the program?
Our program accepts people with various disabilities including autism, cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, spina bifida, developmental disabilities, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, muscular dystrophy, stroke, visual impairments, hearing loss.
2. I use a wheelchair—could I still ride?
Yes, we have a wheelchair mounting ramp and as long as you are under 150 pounds, we can get you mounted on a horse. Depending on your transfer abilities, trunk strength and control, and availability of strong volunteers, we can accommodate riders up to 180 lbs.
3. Do you have age limits?
We do not start riders until age 3. Although most of our riders are between the ages of 3 to 30, we have had older adults depending on availability of the facility, volunteers, and horses.
4. Can you do trail rides?
Unfortunately, we do not have the capability to offer trail rides. We work in an enclosed arena for all of our mounted activities.
5. How often could I ride?
Because we have so many riders and a limited amount of time and horses available, our riders come twice a month, on alternating weeks.
6. Do you have a mechanical lift?
No, we have a wheelchair ramp, but no mechanical lift Therefore we have a maximum weight of 180 lbs.
